1. Purpose
This Code of Ethical Practice sets out the standards of conduct that guide Motus Institute in the design, promotion, delivery, assessment and support of Pilates education. It is intended to protect participants, uphold professional standards and support safe, inclusive and transparent education.
2. Professional integrity and transparency
· We provide accurate, current and clear information about course content, entry requirements, learning outcomes, assessment expectations, fees, refunds, support options and completion requirements.
· We do not make misleading claims about employment outcomes, scope of practice, government recognition, accreditation or registration status.
· We distinguish clearly between AUSactive CEC approval, private Motus Institute course completion and any external registration or recognition requirements that may apply to participants.
· We act honestly, fairly and professionally in all dealings with participants, staff, contractors, regulators and industry partners.
3. Scope of practice and professional boundaries
· We teach Pilates education within the recognised role and boundaries of Pilates and fitness professionals.
· We do not teach participants to diagnose medical conditions, provide therapeutic treatment, prescribe independent rehabilitation, provide psychological counselling or work outside their qualifications and professional registration category.
· We encourage referral to appropriately qualified health, medical or allied health professionals where a client presents with needs outside the instructor’s scope of practice.
· We promote safe, client-centred teaching that respects individual needs, consent, comfort, capacity and dignity.
4. Inclusion, equality and anti-discrimination
· We provide a learning environment that is respectful, inclusive and free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation and victimisation.
· We welcome participants regardless of age, gender, race, cultural background, disability, religion, sexuality, body size, pregnancy status or family responsibilities.
· We make reasonable adjustments where practicable to support fair access to learning, assessment and course participation.
· We use respectful language and avoid shaming, stigmatising or fear-based communication.
5. Privacy and confidentiality
· We collect only the personal information reasonably required for enrolment, course delivery, learner support, assessment, completion records and reporting obligations.
· We store participant information securely and restrict access to authorised personnel only.
· We do not disclose personal information without consent unless required by law, required for legitimate course administration, or necessary to protect safety.
· We treat participant questions, disclosures, assessment submissions and feedback as confidential.
6. Fairness in assessment and learner support
· We assess participants against clearly stated learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
· We apply assessment decisions consistently, fairly and without bias.
· We provide reasonable feedback and opportunities for clarification where a participant does not yet demonstrate the required knowledge or skill.
· We communicate support pathways, including course contact details, technical support and reassessment options.
7. Safety, wellbeing and respectful learning
· We prioritise participant and client safety in all education, demonstrations and assessment activities.
· We encourage participants to work within their own capacity and to seek medical or allied health advice where appropriate.
· We require respectful communication in all course spaces, including online forums, mentoring sessions, emails, assessment submissions and practical feedback.
· We address inappropriate conduct promptly, fairly and proportionately.
8. Evidence-informed education and continuous improvement
· We aim to provide current, evidence-informed Pilates education that is professionally presented and relevant to contemporary teaching practice.
· We review course content, participant feedback, assessment outcomes and industry guidance to improve the program over time.
· We correct errors or outdated information when identified and update materials where required.
· We maintain records that support course completion, assessment outcomes and quality improvement.
9. Conflicts of interest and commercial conduct
· We disclose or manage conflicts of interest that may affect course delivery, assessment, participant advice or business relationships.
· We do not pressure participants into purchasing unrelated products or services as a condition of course completion unless clearly disclosed as a course requirement before enrolment.
· We present fees, inclusions and exclusions clearly before enrolment.
